spansion

Spansion Inc. was a leading American-based company specializing in the design, development, and manufacturing of flash memory, microcontrollers, mixed-signal, and analog products. Founded in 1993 as a joint venture between AMD and Japan's Fujitsu Ltd., Spansion was initially known as FASL LLC. After AMD took control in 2003, it was renamed Spansion LLC in June 2004 and officially spun off as an independent maker of flash memory chips in December 2005. The company was known for its innovative flash memory solutions, including the HyperBus Interface and HyperFlash Memory, which were used in a wide range of applications from automotive electronics to consumer devices. Spansion had over 10,000 customers worldwide and was headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, with significant operations in Austin, Texas, and Bangkok, Thailand. The company played a crucial role in the semiconductor industry until it was acquired by Cypress Semiconductor in December 2014, forming a new entity valued at $4 billion.
