Cleveland Twist Drill
Cleveland Twist Drill Co., founded in 1876 by Jacob D. Cox, Sr., is a pioneering company in the machine tool industry. Initially established in Dunkirk, New York, with a $2,000 loan from Cox's father, the company moved to Cleveland, Ohio, within a year and began manufacturing general machine tools and drills. Over its long history, Cleveland Twist Drill has grown to become one of the leading manufacturers of cutting tools, known for its high-quality drills, reamers, and other precision tools. The company played a significant role in the war effort during World War II, producing essential components for military equipment. After merging with National Acme Company in 1968 to form Acme-Cleveland Corporation, Cleveland Twist Drill continued to thrive until it was sold to Greenfield Industries Inc. in 1994, eventually becoming part of the global cutting tool manufacturer Greenfield Industries.
